As economic globalization advances, the background of people of Kanagawa has become very multicultural and the number of foreign residents is still on a rapid increase.
Kanagawa International Foundation (KIF), since its establishment in 1977, has played a leading role in the fields of international exchanges and international cooperation and has worked closely with the people of Kanagawa, trying to meet their changing needs.

Today, KIF has 4 missions:
1.Support Kanagawa citizens’ international exchange and cooperation activities, by way of providing adequate information, knowledge and funding
2. Develop human resources and raise international awareness as global citizens.
3. Promote Multicultural Society
4. Connect local actions and the global issues through academic and cultural exchanges in efforts to find solutions.
Educational consultation at Earth Plaza, which started in 2006, is one of the examples to show as to how KIF has worked closely with foreign children and their guardians, and worked together to solve problems or overcome hardship. Our efforts in this education project over the last four years was put together into a report and published in May, 2010. I hope that this report serves to improve the situation of foreign children living and studying in Kanagawa.
At Shonan Academic Research Center, KIF undertakes projects to discuss ideas for solutions to issues such as poverty or environmental destruction. “21st. Century Kanagawa Round-Table Conference” and “UN university global seminar” are two such examples of projects designed to raise awareness of participants and prepare the youths to live and work in the international community.
I look forward to your continuing understanding and support in our efforts to make Kanagawa more global, multicultural and harmonious for everyone.
